Sixthly, Defending and protecting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him:

Defending and supporting the Messenger of Allah, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, are great signs of loving and venerating him. Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful.} [Quran 59: 8]

The Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, given the most amazing and truthful examples in defending the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sacrificing their properties, children and souls, in ease and hardship, in facility and difficulty for his sake. In fact, biographies are full of their stories and reports that indicate the ultimate example of love, preference and veneration.

For instance, in the battle of Uhud, Abu Talhah Al-Ansaari, may Allaah be pleased with him, stood before the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, covering him with a shield saying: "O Prophet of Allaah, may my father and my mother be sacrificed for you, do not raise your head lest you be struck by an arrow shot by the enemy. My neck is before your neck."

It was narrated that Qays ibn Abi Haazim, may Allaah be pleased with him, said: "I saw Talhah's paralyzed hand with which he had protected the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on the day of Uhud."

What great words said by Anas ibn An-Nadhr, may Allaah have mercy upon him, on the day of Uhud when the Muslims turned their backs and fled: "O Allah! I apologize to You for what these (i.e. his companions) have done, and I denounce what these (i.e. the pagans) have done." Then he advanced and Sa‘d ibn Mu‘aath met him. He said "O Sa‘d ibn Mu‘adh ! By the Lord of An-Nadr, Paradise! I am smelling its aroma coming from before (the mountain of) Uhud," Later on Sa‘d said, "O Messenger of Allah! I cannot achieve or do what he (i.e. Anas ibn An-Nadhr) did. We found more than eighty wounds by swords and arrows on his body. We found him dead and his body was mutilated so badly that none except his sister could recognize him by his fingers."

Defending and protecting the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, require some matters such as:

1- Defending his companions, may Allaah be pleased with them:

The Whole Muslim nation has agreed that all Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, are trustworthy and just and that they are the best of the nation of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. There are many reported texts from the Noble Quran and honorable Sunnah have pointed out this fact. Amongst them are:

Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {Certainly was Allah pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you, [O Muhammad], under the tree, and He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent down tranquility upon them and rewarded them with an imminent conquest.} [Quran 48: 18]

Allah, The Almighty, also Says (what means): {Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah; and those with him are forceful against the disbelievers, merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating [in prayer], seeking bounty from Allah and [His] pleasure. Their mark is on their faces from the trace of prostration. That is their description in the Torah. And their description in the Gospel is as a plant which produces its offshoots and strengthens them so they grow firm and stand upon their stalks, delighting the sowers - so that Allah may enrage by them the disbelievers. Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds among them forgiveness and a great reward.} [Quran 48: 29]

It was narrated that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “No one should revile my Companions. For if one amongst you were to spend as much gold as (the mountain of) Uhud, it would not amount to as much as one Mudd (handful) of one of them or half of it.”
