1- Ignorance of the Great Value of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him:

Amongst the other forms of negligence practiced towards the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, is what many pretend of in spite of their different intentions and various kinds of their negligence that is combined in ignorance of the real value, status, virtues of the companions, may Allah be pleased with them. They are the greatest and best generation that Allah, The Almighty, chose to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he (i.e. the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him) is their share of the Prophets, may Allah exalted their mention. They have the great honor of being the companions and seeing the light of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Therefore, the books of honorable Sunnah are full of the Hadeeths that speak about the virtues of them as a whole or individually; be from the emigrants or Al-Ansaar (i.e. the supporters of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.) As for our share of this, it is to feel proud of this great generation. Moreover, the verses of the Noble Quran implied praise and commendation for them. Amongst them are the sayings of Allah, The Almighty:

•   {And the first forerunners [in the faith] among the Muhajireen and the Ansaar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him, and He has prepared for them gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. That is the great attainment.} [Quran 9: 100]

•   {Allah has forgiven the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Muhajirun (Muslim emigrants who left their homes and came to Al-Madinah) and the Ansaar (Muslims of Al-Madeenah) who followed him (Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him) in the time of distress (Tabuk expedition, etc.),…}[Quran 9: 117]

•   {Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you, [O Muhammad] - they are actually pledging allegiance to Allah. The hand of Allah is over their hands. So he who breaks his word only breaks it to the detriment of himself. And he who fulfills that which he has promised Allah - He will give him a great reward.}[Quran 48: 10]

•   {Among the believers are men true to what they promised Allah. Among them is he who has fulfilled his vow [to the death], and among them is he who awaits [his chance]. And they did not alter [the terms of their commitment] by any alteration.}[Quran 33: 23]

How about those who left their properties, children and even took the risk of their lives to emigrate for two times to Abyssinia or to Medina, leaving the life of abundant luxury in Makkah? Can anyone after all of such things have doubts in their faith, truthfulness and sincerity?

Allah, The Almighty, has pointed out the position of the one who goes against Muslim community and separates from them and abandons what the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, came with, instructed, explained or appointed. Allah, The Almighty, Says (what means): {And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him and follows other than the way of the believers - We will give him what he has taken and drive him into Hell, and evil it is as a destination.} [Quran 4: 115]

As for the disputes occurred among them, they are purely humans (and naturally apt to err) and are not infallible. Moreover, who are we to judge them and criticize them? Subsequently, our tongues should be totally free from any evil word about them in much the same way as our hearts should be. This is the safest and most subtle approach. Furthermore, the objectionable amount of their deeds is negligible in comparison to their virtues, their merit is in belief in Allah, The Almighty, and His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, the Jihad (i.e. strive) in His Path, the Hijrah (emigration) from Makkah to Medina, the support for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the faith, the valuable knowledge and the good deeds. Whoever studies the life of the companions objectively, with insight and with what Allah bestowed upon them of virtues, will no doubt discover that they are the best of all people after the Prophet (peace be upon him), that there never was and never will be their like and that indeed they are the choicest of the generations of the Ummah which is in itself the best of all nations and the most honorable in the sight of Allah,The Exalted.”

We should also know that the majority of the companions and the majority of the best of them never engaged in Fitnah (i.e. trial). It was reported with an Isnaad about which Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: “It is one of the most authentic narrations ever.” It was narrated that Muhammad ibn Sireen, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “The Fitnah raged and the companions of the Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, were ten thousand but not even a hundred participated, not even thirty.”

Also, only one good deed from them may equal thousands of good deeds done by others as it was stated in the coming text. The sane, discerning and impartial person who seeks truth and nothing but it (i.e. truth) realizes that Allah, The Almighty, does not choose the people who will corrupt religion and hate the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to be his companions.

Christians once were asked: “Who is the best of your religion?” They replied; the companions of ‘Eesa (i.e. Jesus), may Allah exalted his mention.” A group of those who belong to islam was asked: “Who is the evilest of your religion?” They replied: The companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him.” Also, there were two groups; one of them slandered Maryam (i.e. Mary mother of Jesus), may Allah exalted her mention, with fornication in much the same way as the other group did with ‘Aa’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her. So, contemplate well, may Allah show mercy to you, how desires and misguidance combined together in such two groups. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “No one should revile my Companions. For if one amongst you were to spend as much gold as (the mountain of) Uhud, it would not amount to as much as one Mudd (handful) of one of them or half of it.”

We can also consider well the way of defending the companions when, as Imam Muslim, may Allah have mercy upon him, authentically reported, ‘Aa’ith ibn ‘Aamr (the Companion) (May Allah be pleased with him) visited ‘Ubaidullah ibn Ziyaad (the ruler) and said to him: “I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, ‘The worst shepherds (rulers) are those who deal harshly in respect of supervision. Beware, Do not be one of them!”’ Ibn Ziyaad said to him, “Sit down, you are but husk from among the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.” ‘Aa’ith ibn ‘Aamr (May Allah be pleased with him) retorted: “Was there any husk among them? Surely, husk came after them and among others than them.”

Really, our dear companion ‘Aa’ith, may Allah be pleased with him, is all truthful.

I find blame for loving you is something great, so let them give me the worst blame (i.e. I will also find it great).
